Job description

The main purpose: Serve food and beverages to customers during banquets, check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals, communicate with customers to resolve complaints and ensure customer satisfaction at all times.

 

Reporting to the: Assistant Event Services Manager - Beverage

 

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Attend to all service requirements of the customers.

  • Take food and beverage orders and ensure correct orders are provided.

  • Deliver correct orders and correct bills to customers should there be additional bills.

  • Greet each and every customer appropriately as per company standards.

  • Explain the menu and upsell food and beverages at all times.

  • Check on the customers regularly to ensure that their needs and expectations are met.

  • Set up tables with correct crockery, cutlery and table supplies.

  • Clear all used plates from tables.

  • Maintaining the operating equipment within the company.

  • Execute instructions or tasks given by supervisor or manager.

  • Be pro-active in dealing with customer and customer complaints and escalate unresolved issues to the supervisor or the manager.

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness at all times.

  • Adhere to company health and hygiene policies and procedures.

Job requirements

Minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Matric certificate or equivalent (NQF 4).

  • Three (3) years waitron experience.

  • Experience in a five (5) star establishment such as a hotel, resort or similar industry will be advantageous.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Communication skills – must be able to listen carefully to customers’ specific requests, ask any questions.

  • Customer-service skills – must be friendly and polite and be able to develop a good rapport with customers.

  • Attention to detail - must be able to recall the details of each order and match the food or drink orders to the correct customer.

  • Interpersonal skills - must be courteous, tactful, and attentive they must show an understanding of customers’ complaints and help resolve any issues that arise or escalate issues to the supervisor immediately.

  • Physical stamina – must be able to spend hours on their feet carrying heavy trays, dishes, and drinks.

  • Time management.

This position is based on an hourly paid salary structure.
