The main purpose: The Social Media Officer forms part of the Marketing team and will be responsible for growing the CTICC’s online presence through innovative digital marketing and brand management. The role entails a keen eye for detail, project management skills and a thorough understanding of the online space. The Social Media Officer is in charge of the digital aspect such as search engine optimisation, building an online community and making website updates via WordPress.

Reporting to the: Head of Marketing and Communications

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

1) Social Media 

  • Build and manage the CTICC social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok profiles, blogs and other relevant social media communities, including online review sites and forums.

  • Contribute to the development of a social media strategy aligned to the centre’s vision and through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification.

  • Maintain consistent brand messaging across all platforms.

  • Collaborate with industry stakeholders to increase brand exposure.

  • Ensuring monthly paid advertising is activated across various social media channels.

  • Develop a social editorial calendar and publishing schedule to manage content and implement specific campaigns/conversations.

  • Build own expertise in social media, platforms, news, trends and measurement tools and make recommendations to improve CTICC’s reach and engagement.

  • Work with the Marketing team to increase efficacy of social media marketing campaigns.

  • Implement social media tactics that are aligned to SEO strategies.

  • Set and meet monthly goals for each social media platform.

2) Content creation

  • Create visual, audio, and multimedia assets for the CTICC media library. These may include (but are not limited to) videos, webpages and online materials for internal and external marketing.

  • Produce professional-standard work which has tone and style appropriate to the audience and is compliant with CTICC's brand guidelines. Produce work efficiently, within time and budget constraints.

  • Provide technical expertise (in basic graphic design and image production) to assist the marketing team in creating effective and engaging interactive online assets.

  • Apply 'best practices' in graphic/video design and communications to ensure all work produced is clear and visually appealing.

  • Developing engaging content that drives potential clients to the corporate websites.

  • Support the marketing team by sourcing or creating multimedia support resources for internal and external marketing campaigns and promotions.

  • Managing and updating of various CTICC websites’ back-end via WordPress CMS.

3) Community Engagement

  • Focus on community engagement and the visitor experience. Monitor, listen and respond to comments and questions with immediacy.

  • Generate, edit, publish, and share daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action.

4) Photography and videography

  • Managing photography and videography for CTICC stakeholder events as well as events taking place within the centre.

  • Ensuring that venue and event image library stays up to date (This may include capturing high-quality images when photographers are not available).

  • Updating of the CTICC website’s media centre with the latest images and videos.

5) Conceptualisation and recommendations

  • Conceptualise image and video content ideas and optimise content for engagement across the social media accounts.

  • Build own expertise in social media, platforms, news, trends and measurement tools and make recommendations to improve CTICC’s reach and engagement.

  • Identify threats and opportunities in user-generated content surrounding the company and report notable threats to appropriate management.

  • Brainstorm and work with other teams to generate content ideas and find ways to promote content.

  • Determine and track and relevant KPIs, analyse, review and report performance in an effort to maximise results.

  • Research and compile statistics on the company’s social audience, as well as competitors across various social media platforms.

  • Manage implementation and analysis of all online (social) giveaways and competitions.

  • Identify and improve staff development aspects that would help in the generation of content ideas.

  • Engage experts and influencers to increase brand reach.


Job requirements

Minimum Qualifications and experience required:

  • Diploma in Marketing, Communications or Public Relations (NQF Level 6) or higher.

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience leveraging social media and other media channels in a corporate, marketing or brand-building capacity.

  • Solid working knowledge of SEO.

  • Well-versed in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and LinkedIn with at least one years’ first-hand experience in community management on these platforms.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products, blog hosting and other social media tools.

  • Experience in customer-facing operations advantageous.

  • Must have a solid understanding of the big picture of digital.

  • Knowledge of web (Google Analytics) and social media analytics for the various platforms and ability to interpret analytics to improve performance and reporting of ROI.

Skills and attributes:

  • Willingness to cover events and work out-of-office hours.

  • Excellent writing, attention to detail and communication skills.

  • Ability to execute multiple tasks with tight turnaround times.
